Meet Your
Tennis Instructor

With over 40 years on the court and more than five years of coaching experience, I’ve helped players of all ages and skill levels improve their game — from first-time beginners to advanced intermediates. Whether working with kids or adults,
I tailor each lesson to bring out the best in every player.
My teaching style is energetic, encouraging, and focused on keeping tennis fun for everyone.

Off the court, I’m a passionate climate advocate and former film producer. I spend my free time in nature enjoying our beautiful surroundings, which includes hiking all over the Central Coast with my wife Marnie, nurturing my garden, and volunteering as
a docent at the elephant seal rookery in San Simeon.

What is Live Ball?

Live Ball is a fast-paced, doubles format tennis game designed to be fun and action-packed, while focusing on fitness rather than instruction

Rules of Live Ball:

The court is divided into two sides:
champions and challengers

Four players are on the court at any time, two on each side

A coach feeds the ball into play, alternating between the two challengers

The challengers must win four points to dethrone the champions before the champions win two points

If a challenger hits an untouched winner off the first ball feed, both challengers become champions immediately

The champions' net player cannot directly "poach" the first hit

The constant feeding of the ball keeps players moving
Practicing during a live ball exchange can help improve timing and rhythm

What Does Net Zero Tennis Mean?

Net Zero Tennis is a double entendre. On the court, it refers to the goal of avoiding the net—it's better to miss long than to come up short. Off the court, it nods to the global goal of achieving net zero carbon dioxide emissions in the coming decades. Both are aspirational, since achieving either verges on the impossible, but that shouldn't stop us from trying! So... aspire to be better!
